Emil Chronicle Online: Introduction to Elemental System

In every game that adopt elemental features,  it almost always have some rules stating that every elements bounds to have strengths and weaknesses against other elements.
In ECO, there are six elements in total, namely  Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Light, and Dark.
They corresponds to each other like this:

simply said:
  • fire wins against water,
  • water wins against earth,
  • earth wins against wind,
  • wind wins against fire,
  • darkness wins against fire, earth, water and wind
  • light wins against darkness
  • fire, earth, water and wind wins against light.

It's like a matter of rock-paper-scissors game. there's no such thing like the ultimate elements that win against every single elements. Instead, they has their own limitation.
Before iris update, these elements doesn't really matter that much, since it doesn't do much difference in term of damage. But after iris update, this feature become a pretty big deals since exploitation of elements have been boosted greatly.

In this post, i will briefly explain about how this system works.

Elements generally divided into 3 parts, resistance,  attacks, and fields.

Elemental vector(resistance/attacks)
If you check onto your status menu, there's a button to show your elements. they are represented there using number. I'll just call this number as "vector". I'll explain about how these numbers works later on.

There's no maximum limit for these vector. Though, there's some theory that it's capped at 100. Having more than that won't do anything more than what 100 vectors do. For an extra rule, you may not have 2 elements at once.  Your elemental affinity determined by whichever elements that has highest vector.

Your elemental affinity determined by whichever elements that has highest vector. In this case, it's fire (50 vectors).

If there's two elements that's on tie (having exactly same vector), and assuming both are your highest vector, please refer to this chart

When your elements are on tie, elements on the highest position will become your elements, so, if you have , say, all elements on 10 vectors. your elemental affinity will becomes fire, since it's located on the highest position in this chart

Fire are on the higher position on the chart, therefore your affinity become fire, despite it's on tie with darkness at 50 vectors

Field elements

Aside from our elements, there's also exist field elements. These elements will affects your elements if and only if your elements are same with the corresponding fields elements.
For example, there's someone that have wind 10 and earth 5 for it's resistance. hence, his afinnity is wind.
if the fields have 50 wind elements, then his wind resistance affinity become 60 vectors.
if the fields have 50 earth elements, his affinity is still 10 winds.

Every fields has it's own elements. Ranging from absolutely no elements to 100 vector boost. you can use shaman's elemental sensing to determine field's element, but such thing, IMO is a waste of skill points.

Below is a table of fields elements around the Acronia

Damage multiplier

Like what i stated above, exploiting elements will give you advantage, which is, higher damage multiplier. this table will determine how much it will affect your elements

Higher numbers denotes that it will deals more damage, and vice versa. it goes like this: +3 > +2 > +1 > +0 > -1 > -2 > -3
Here we can see that even light elements weaks against many elements, it's not really that bad compared other weaknessess, the same goes for darkness, despite being able to exploit many elements, the bonus for it aren't really that great.

PS: actually there's exact calculation for these. But for the sake of simplicity, I'll just use this simple table.

For monster's affinity and vector, please refer to here Many Thanks to Rotten Angel
Do note that every elemental skill, such as fire bolt, blast, etc  are regarded as 100 vectors elemental attacks.

The calculation works roughly like this:
An elementalist use fire blast : 400%

He is using zen: doubles the damage: 2*400% = 800%
He fight against enemies that have 100 water vectors : 800% * 450% = 3600% (well, that's a lot of damage)

That's the calculation on paper, in reality, it's really impractical to get a monster to have 100 vectors, making example above become something you do for show off only.

This is doable, but impractical.

Improving your elemental vector

Resistance
There's several way to improve your resistance affinity:
1. Using iris card, how many vectors increased by this depends on your cards.
2. Elemental Shield (shaman || warlock || vates).

These skills will give you 50 vectors and unstackable, using different shield will overwrite your current shield.
3. Worshipper(Shadow-Dark Stalker , Flame- Blacksmith): This is more like booster than giving off elements. what this skill actually do is if you have affinity of said elements. It will adds some bonus to it. if you don't have said elements, this skill will do nothing.
4. Scroll create level 2 sage - Shield: Same effects as elemental shield lv 5.
5. Using marionette. every marionette has 50 affinity to it's corresponding elements (ex: insmouse has 50 water affinity)
6. using armor that's already have elements, for example, knit leggings has 5 water property in it.

Attacks
1. Using iris card, how many vectors increased by this depends on your cards.
2. Elemental weapon

These skills will give you 50 vectors and unstackable, using different weapons will overwrite your current weapons.
3. Worshipper(Shadow-Dark Stalker , Flame- Blacksmith): this is more like booster than giving off elements. what this skill actually do is if you have affinity of said elements. It will adds some bonus to it. if you don't have said elements, this skill will do nothing.
4. Using elemental perfume. Perfume can be bought on npc downtown or created using chemical synthesis.
5. using weapon that's already have elements for example, thor hammer has 50 wind property in it.

Field
There's only a few way to boost this ;_;
1. Elemental Circle/shadow pentagram/Summon Holy Light (shaman || warlock || vates):

These skills will cause 3x3 (exception for light circle, which has 5x5) AoE to become elemental fields
2. Fairy Prayer, used to boost elements that's already in the fields to go higher

Enemies
There's also a few ways to modify your enemies's vector and affinity:
1. Elemental Rise/Heavenly Blessing/Shadow Blessing

this skill will add 50 vectors to the corresponding elements, note that if your enemies have more vectors than you already give, his affinity won't change
2. Abnormal Effect: freeze and petrify will instantly cause one's element to vecome 100(water if frozen, earth if petrified).
3. Supportive Arrow: (thanks to Kamen Rider @ gate00)

Similar to enchanter, this skill will add 60 vectors to the corresponding elements

Well, that's roughly the basic if you have some comments or something to ask, feel free to do so.
Please do not ask what's already written or already asked, I won't answer that kind of question @_@
